Tim's Biography
After working at a Regional Arts workshop and then a documentary production company from 1983, Tim went freelance as a Clapper/Loader in 1985. This work led to his first major focus pulling job on the aerial unit of the LWT series “Piece of Cake”, in 1987. Since then he has been a freelance focus puller working on many films and prestige television dramas. Recent films include “The Wedding Date”, “Pride” and “’71”. Recent TV dramas include “Top Boy”, “The Shadow Line” and “Dead Set”.
Tim joined the Guild in 1991 and was elected to the Board in 2006, becoming Chair in 2009.
In Tim's own words from the British Cinematographer Magazine, Issue 122, March/April 2024.
'I was invited to join the Guild 2000. I remember very well the sense of pride I felt in the way it recognised and validated my career up to that point. I am pleased to have the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience to help guide the Guild'

Such a shock Tim will be sorely missed he did a great job as the thankless task of chairman very quiet just got on with it . It was a great pleasure working with you Tim taken from us far too early RIP friend and colleague K
Gosh how tragic! I owe Tim a great debt as he took over the chairmanship of the GBCT when I stepped down after several difficult years. Not a simple task which he took on with grace and great professionalism. His quiet methodical handling of the loss of Dee Edwards and the enormous amount of effort thereafter was another example of his dedication to us all. Also, his knowledge and tenacity of all things BECTU was utterly brilliant and as others have said we owe him a huge debt for tirelessly representing the camera department for so long. Farewell and thank you dear Tim, and my condolences to Kathy and your families.

Very saddened to hear this tragic and unexpected news about Tim, always the perfect gentleman, and a highly respected technician. As Chairman Tim served the GBCT and it’s membership with s steady hand, outstanding professionalism and diplomacy.
He will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences to Kathy and all Tim’s loved ones.
I had an amazing time working with him as his AC on the set of Porters back in 2018, which is when these photos are from (the one of him at his stand I took on my film camera). I’ve since mostly caught up with him at various events and BSC Expos. I’ll never forget his kindness or sunny approach to life and work. May he rest in peace.
