Focus Pulling Course

This 5 day hands on workshop is aimed at established loaders wishing to step up to focus to aid their transition to their new role as well as new focus pullers wanting to practise their craft.Through theoretical and practical exercises, you’ll learn about the role and responsibilities as a focus puller from prep to wrap, your practical duties on set, the tools, techniques and equipment you’ll use and how to employ your knowledge to deal with a wide range of shots.

Over the 5 days you’ll cover:

• Fundamental theory of cinematography 

• Basic theory of optics • Testing, prepping and maintaining equipment 

• Measuring distances and spaces 

• Understanding a scene 

• Breaking down a shot 

• Using a Follow Focus and LCS 

• Additional technology; monitors, cinetape etc 

• Working with Actors 

• Working with operators and grips 

• Politics, relationships and troubleshooting
