The GBCT Trainee Programme, which was scheduled to be launched in July/August 2025, will now be put on hold until further notice. This comes after much consideration due to the state of the industry and the oversaturation of entry level crew into the camera department.

 

Following the actors and writers strikes, the decommissioning of long-running TV drama series, the LA fires and the lack of independent UK productions, the industry has not picked up for many established crew, as was forecast. Therefore it would be unfair to encourage new members into the industry without first addressing the career development of our members and those already working on mainstream productions.

The GBCT also wants to ensure that we are at the forefront of supporting equity within the camera department and beyond, by helping talented individuals who would not otherwise be able to access the industry, gain a foothold.

We send our sincere apologies to those of you who are disappointed by this news, but we have to be strategic about the sustainability of those already working in the industry, now and in the future.
